Trains unable to run between Maidstone East and Ashford as rain batters Kent

A railway line was shut as torrential rain batters parts of the county.

Trains travelling from Maidstone East and Ashford were cancelled shortly before 10am this morning, Southeastern has announced.

Trains are unable to run between Maidstone East and Ashford

It comes after heavy rain and thunderstorms pummeled Kent this morning.

The Met Office says the storms are expected to cause disruption until 10.30am.

Southeastern tweeted: “Due to flooding, no trains can run from Maidstone East to Ashford.

“Services which run from Ashford towards Maidstone East may be delayed, revised or cancelled.

“You can use your ticket on Arriva bus route 10X between Maidstone and Ashford.”

The line reopened shortly after 10am this morning.
