Car crashes into police officer in reported Ashford hit-and-run

A police officer has been taken to hospital with serious injuries following a reported hit-and-run while carrying out speed tests.

The constable was patrolling on foot in Coulter Road in Ashford when he was hit by a car.

Following the collision, the vehicle reportedly failed to stop and is believed to have continued driving along Tally Ho Road.

Detectives have arrested a local 19-year-old in connection with the incident. He has since been bailed as investigations continue.

Police are now appealing for anyone with information about what happened to come forward.

A spokesperson said: “The incident took place at 3.16pm on Friday in Coulter Road, near the junction with Hedgers Way.

“The officer, who was on foot at the time carrying out speed checks, sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital where he remains.

“The car involved in the collision is described as a silver Vauxhall Vectra and a car matching its description was found in Hornash Lane, Shadoxhurst later that day.”
