Armed police called to Ashford as man arrested and catapult seized

A man has been arrested and a catapult seized after armed police were called to Ashford.

Officers descended on Monkton Close in Stanhope at midnight following a report of a disturbance involving two groups.

Police were called to Monkton Close, Stanhope

Police say all of the people involved are believed to be known to each other.

A 20-year-old man from the town was arrested in connection with the disturbance and remains in custody.

Just a few hours after being called to Stanhope, armed officers were also seen in School Road, Bethersden, as part of the investigation.

Residents reported seeing police close to the village's primary school at 2.30am.
