Two men will appear in court for biting and spitting at police officers after being arrested at a train station.

The two separate incidents took place two hours apart at Ashford International station last Thursday.

One man, a 24-year-old who hasn't been named, was originally arrested at 3.19pm on suspicion of criminal damage, being drunk and disorderly and harassment of rail staff.

A British Transport Police tweet made at the time said: "This male was taken to custody and had to be placed on a constant watch with three officers due to his aggressive nature, whilst there the male spat in an officers face. He has been further arrested for this."

For this, he will now also appear in court on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker. He has been bailed until Thursday, February 13.

The second man - Howard Harris from Station Road, Canterbury - was arrested on suspicion of a sexual offence, according to a second BTP social media post.

Recounting the 28-year-old's arrest at 5.18pm, the authority's tweets continued: "This male then bit one of the arresting officers on the hand and was further arrested for this.

"While on a constant watch at hospital this male has just assaulted another police officer. He has been further arrested for this. And officers are on their way to custody now.

"This male once he had left hospital and arrived at custody was searched and officers found a small knife on him for which he has been further arrested."

Mr Harris is now due to appear at Medway Magistrates’ Court on Friday, January 24, charged with possessing a knife and three counts of assaulting a police officer.
