Crowds spectators gathered to watch a transformer the size of a house take to Kent's roads.

Drivers were asked to clear the way for the 318 tonne load as it moved from Sellindge to Dover.

It left National Grid's Sellindge substation aboard an 87-metre specialist delivery vehicle at 9pm with a police escort.

It then made its way to the Port of Dover via Church Lane, turning left onto the A20 to join the M20 at junction 10.

It travelled at approximately 12 miles an hour and was flanked by police outriders.

Andy Clark said about 60 people watched the transformer at the Crooksfoot roundabout in Ashford last night before it joined the motorway.
