Delays on A28 Canterbury Road in Birchington and Ashford after vehicle fire and car crash

Motorists faced long delays on a major route this morning following a smash and unrelated vehicle fire.

Firefighters were called just before 8.30am to the A28 Canterbury Road in St Nicholas at Wade in Birchington after a vehicle went up in flames.

Two fire engines attended and crews had extinguished the blaze by just after 9.30am – no injuries were reported.

There was also a crash on the A28 Canterbury Road in Ashford this morning.

A spokesperson for the ambulance service said paramedics were called shortly after 7am following reports of an RTC involving two vehicles.

Crews arrived and treated and assessed one person at the scene.
