Kent Fire and Rescue service called to grass fire in Westwell Lane, in Ashford, that was probably caused by discarded cigarette

Firefighters have issued a warning about discarding cigarettes properly after they were called to a blaze in a field.

Crews believe the grass fire in Westwell Lane was probably caused by a discarded cigarette.

One engine was sent to the scene around 7pm yesterday.

The team spent about 20 minutes tackling the fire, which was across about 100sq metres of grass.

A spokesman for the service said smokers must take care in disposing of their cigarettes responsibly.
