A STRAY cat is still undergoing extensive surgery for horrific injuries after yobs set fire to his fur.

But Curious George, as he has been named, has probably never known as much affection as he's receiving now.

The Kentish Express recently reported how the tabby, found wandering the streets at Singleton at Ashford, was being cared for by vets who were footing the bill for his treatment which now stands at £2,300.

This week staff at Peter Edgar Veterinary Surgery, in Kennington Road, Willesborough, say thank you to the Kentish Express readers who have sent donations to help with his surgery, currently standing at £1,500.

“The response has been fantastic,” said practice manager Kathy Edgar. “People have sent cards to George himself wishing him well, some signed from their cats and people have given what they can.”

Out of the donations, £1,000 came from a mystery man from Singleton who wanted to remain anonymous but said he knew what happened to the seven-year-old.

“The woman who lived next to him said she saw two teenagers set fire to George,” said Mrs Edgar.

“It seems it started with a blister where his fur caught light but it got infected. He is so loving and trusting to us despite what we have had to do to him.”

George has had three operations, including a skin graft which saw skin taken from his stomach to his neck.

“He is a long way off finding a home but is doing brilliantly and eating for England,” added Mrs Edgar. It has been so moving and emotional for all of us and the response has restored my faith in humans.”
