A man was taken straight into custody at his own request after admitting to causing the death of a teenage girl in a car crash.

Apprentice vehicle paint sprayer Millie Greenway, 17, lost her life following the smash on Mundy Bois Road, Egerton, near Ashford, in July last year.

There were six people travelling in the silver Suzuki Swift and four others were hurt during the crash, which saw the car collide with a tree.

Now, Fahren Smith, 20, has pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving after appearing at Maidstone Crown Court yesterday.

He also pleaded guilty to four counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. as well as driving while uninsured and unlicensed.

He is due to be sentenced at the same court next month.

Smith, from West Street, Sittingbourne, is reported to have asked to be taken into custody straight away to start his inevitable custodial sentence.

The crash happened at about 8.20pm on Saturday, July 4 2020, after the group had spent time at The Rose & Crown, near Pluckley.

The car was travelling in the direction of Egerton when it left the road near Kingsland Lane and collided with a tree in a residential garden.

Tragically, Millie, who worked as an apprentice vehicle paint sprayer, died on the way to hospital.

After her death, her parents Wendy and Andy and sister Sophie paid tribute to loving and caring Millie.

Dad Andy said: "She was in such a perfect moment in her life. She was so happy that day, so full of everything.

“Millie had her dream job, her birthday was coming up, her driving test was due, she had her car and her boyfriend.”

Millie, who liked to change the colour of her hair, would have turned 18 on July 30, just weeks after the crash.

Mum Wendy described her daughter, who was a former North School in Ashford pupil, as her “go-to person” who was her “absolute rock”.

“She was very comfortable around adults and had a very adult outlook,” Wendy said.

“When she was younger she was known as an eco-warrior.

“She was colourful, very vivacious, very feisty – a little firecracker. She wasn’t shy and would just provide entertainment to everyone.

"She was very loving, loyal and caring.

“We foster and she had a massive role in that. She helped all the children feel like a part of the family.”

Millie lived in Shadoxhurst and worked at Summers Motors, an accident repair centre in Biddenden.
