Driver crashes into fence in Great Chart after Kingsnorth police chase called off

A driver who initially evaded police was cuffed after crashing into a fence shortly afterewards.

A police chase began at 7.20pm in Ashford last night after officers saw a car being driven in a suspicious manner.

Attempts to make the motorist stop failed, however, his driving ability meant police were able to apprehend him later.

A police spokesman said: "The vehicle did not stop and a short pursuit was carried out before being called off in the interests of public safety.

"A short time later the car collided with a fence in Ninn Lane, Great Chart, where a 20-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop for police.

"He remains in custody.

"Officers carried out a thorough search of the local area for another man who left the scene, with assistance from the National Police Air Service helicopter.

"He was not located and remains outstanding."
