A section of the A20 in Ashford will remain closed in both directions for almost two weeks.
In order to install an electricity supply for the new Hinxhill Park housing estate, the stretch between The Street (Tesco Crooksfoot roundabout) and the Honeysuckle Avenue junction is to stay shut until Sunday, July 25.
Due to the nature of the works, the road – which closed this morning and has been shut numerous times for improvements in recent months – is not reopening outside of working hours.
A diversion route has been established, which sees drivers go via Junction 10, before taking the A2070 to Junction 10a, passing Sevington's post-Brexit lorry park.
In a statement, Kent County Council said: "The planned dates and duration may change for various reasons including the current coronavirus situation and adverse weather conditions, with any changes signposted on site and notified locally."
Honeysuckle Avenue leads to the new Hinxhill Park estate where 192 homes are being built on land next to the William Harvey Hospital.
Closer to the hospital, contractors have also shut part of The Street until Friday, August 6.
The short one-way section of The Street between the junctions with Hinxhill Road and the remainder of The Street is closed.
The closure will allow contractors to install new block paving.
