Man, 37, arrested on suspicion of possessing a controlled substance at Ashford International Station

A man was arrested after patrolling officers smelt cannabis at a busy train station.

The man, aged 37, was stopped by members of the British Transport Police after they picked up the scent at the Ashford International Station.

A search was carried out and an amount of cannabis was found on the man.

He was arresting on suspicion of possessing a controlled substance.

The incident took place yesterday at 3.45pm.

The man, from Ashford, has now been given an adult caution for the offence.

Witnesses reported seeing around six officers from the BTP at the station, assisted by staff from Southeastern.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: "Officers patrolling Ashford station stopped and searched a 37-year-old man from Ashford after smelling cannabis.

"During the search they found an amount of cannabis and he was arresting on suspicion of possessing a controlled substance.

"He has since been given an adult caution for the offence."
