Repairers have been told there is no time to lose to fix the faulty St Mary’s Church clock in Ashford town centre.

The clock has had problems over the last few weeks with worshippers and shoppers reporting that the time keeps standing still at 5.15pm.

Church warden Alison Thompson said they are aware it has not been running like clockwork and have been liaising with clock repairers Gillett and Johnson to get it fixed.

She said: “We are aware, unfortunately we’ve had ongoing intermittent problems over the last month. We have called our repairers.

“The clock was serviced earlier in the year and has now stopped a couple of times. It always seems to be at around 5.15pm.

“It was working for three days last week and two days the week before. We appreciate it’s a very visual part of the town centre, and we’re just as disappointed as everybody else about the situation.

“Please be assured we are doing our best to work with the company and to get the problem solved.”
