Developers Dukelease and Health and Safety Executive can't say when work on refurbishing The Panorama in Park Street, Ashford will recommence

A man who has bought an apartment in The Panorama says he has been left in limbo after an asbestos discovery shut the site down.

After visiting the Park Street development this week, the man, who does not want to be named, says he was shocked at the “lack of progress” that has been made.

“The site looks like an empty shell,” he said. “I came down a few months ago and nothing has really changed except the windows.”

The man, who paid a deposit and exchanged contracts for his new flat last year, was expecting to be in his new home already.

However, the discovery of asbestos in the nine storey building has left him feeling “gutted” and he's now having to stay with his family.

Work on The Panorama ground to a halt two weeks ago after the discovery of the harmful material behind a wall.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) were called in immediately by developers Dukelease, who recommended that the site close while further checks were carried out.

It is not known when refurbishment work on the building will restart.
