Blackwall Road in Ashford closed for 21 days due to flooding and 'multiple potholes'

A road prone to flooding is to stay shut for three weeks as contractors repair "multiple potholes".

Residents have described the lengthy 21-day closure of Blackwall Road in Ashford as a necessary inconvenience.

Blackwall Road is said to be home to "multiple potholes"

The route was used as a diversion when nearby Kennington Road was closed for six weeks after a number of voids opened up.

But it has been blighted by flooding and Kent County Council says it will now repair "multiple potholes" during the closure.

John Sanders, who lives nearby, often cycles along the road and says the surface needs fixing.

"It is inconvenient but it needs to be done," he said.

"When it was used as the Kennington Road diversion, there were three accidents because people were getting too close and ended up tail-ending each other.

The route will stay closed until February 7

"Closing it and repairing it is the right thing to do in the long term.

"The impact in closing this road for three weeks is very small in comparison to closing Kennington Road for example.

"It will inconvenience some people but not many as it is not very popular."

The road is closed between Blackwall Road North and South and Goodcheap Lane.

It is due to reopen on Tuesday, February 7.
