Neil Cugley is revelling in Folkestone Invicta’s role as the great entertainers this season.

Two years ago Invicta stubbornly ground their way to promotion from Ryman League, Division 1 South, scoring just 54 goals and conceding only 23 in their 42 league games.

Saturday’s 4-2 win at Walton Casuals took Folkestone’s tallies to 30 scored and 19 conceded in their 16 league games to date this term.

Cugley said: "We said at the start of the season that we’d like to go out and enjoy ourselves this season. We wanted to go out in every game and give it a go and try to score goals.

"The last time we were in this division a couple of years ago we were limited in what we could do and so we ended up having to set our stall out for games in a certain way. We ended up being pretty predictable and defensive.

"This season we’re far more open and sometimes that is going to work for us and other times – like the 3-2 loss against Ramsgate – it’s not."

Invicta host Blue Square Bet South basement boys Staines in the FA Trophy third qualifying round on Saturday and Cugley added: "They are under a bit of pressure and although they’re favourites, it’s a good tie for us.

"We’ve already earned a few quid which we hadn’t budgeted for and it’s always good to bring more money into the club."

Liam Dickson (groin), Simon Austin (hamstring), Micheal Everitt (ankle), Richard Atkins (ankle) will all be assessed.
