Folkestone Invicta’s survival hopes have been rocked on and off the field, and manager Neil Cugley admits he is fearing the worst.

Cugley (pictured) received a double blow with the departures of Rob Kember, to Carshalton, and Simon Austin, to lower-league Hythe Town.

Then, on Tuesday, his side suffered a 4-1 defeat at Tooting & Mitcham and head into this weekend just one point and one place above the bottom in the Ryman League Premier Division.

Things do not get easier, with home games against play-off chasers Billericay on Saturday and Canvey Island on Tuesday ahead of a run of matches against other top sides.

"With the games we’ve got we have to be realistic and most probably we will go down," said Cugley.

"We’re not giving up, though, and we’ve got some good games to look forward to.

"The two lads have gone but we just have to roll our sleeves up and get on with it. Luckily, we have a good bunch of players here."

With Kember and Austin departing, Cugley could have as few as 12 fit first- team players left for this weekend.
