A road in Ashford is to be re-named after a former French mayor as part of this year’s civic twinning celebrations.
Romney Marsh Road, which runs directly in front of Ashford International Station, is being re-named Avenue Jacques Faucheux, in honour of the former Mayor of Fougeres, Ashford’s twin in Brittany.
The name change recognises Monsieur Faucheux’s great contribution to the twinning partnership between Ashford and Fougeres over 30 years.
The naming ceremony will take place at 10am on Saturday, September 12 and will form part of this year’s civic twinning visit between Ashford, Fougeres and Bad Munstereifel.
Monsieur Faucheux himself will attend official unveiling alongside the Mayor of Ashford, Cllr John Holland.
The ceremony will be followed by a tour of the new Hitachi bullet train depot, which is located near the International station.
More than 50 German and French VIPs will be visiting Ashford that weekend.
The guests will be in civic delegations led by the Mayors from the twin towns of Bad Munstereifel in The Rhineland and Fougeres.
