Firefighters were called to the A2070 in Brenzett to tackle a fire in a fuel tanker being used in road works

A fire that threatened to become a raging inferno was confined to the cab of a fuel tanker which caught alight.

Firefighters were called to the A2070 in Brenzett at around 1am this morning.

The vehicle fire, which was being used as part of ongoing road resurfacing work, took to two hours to bring under control, but the situation could have been far worse.

One engine and a water unit from Ashford attended the scene, as well as an engine from New Romney.
