Gillingham consider running bus service for fans from Ashford

Gillingham are considering whether to run a dedicated matchday bus service from Ashford to Priestfield and back again.

The club want feedback from Ashford-based Gills fans to determine if the project is feasible as they look at ways to attract more supporters from across Kent. With car parking spaces around the ground limited, the club are hoping supporters could be interested in the idea.

The cost is likely to be about £5 for a return journey, but the club are also considering subsidising the service to encourage more fans to take up the offer. They are also looking at the idea of selling spaces on the bus together with a match ticket.

However, before going ahead, the club would like feedback from football fans in the Ashford area to help gauge support for the project.

Gillingham’s marketing manager, Murray Evans (pictured), said: "The cost of a bus to take supporters from Ashford to Priestfield and home again is very reasonable, and we think it could be the answer for us.

"We would like to arrange two or three pick-up points close to Ashford with a couple of stops at Maidstone on route to the ground."

Fans who might like to take advantage of the scheme are asked to email murray@priestfield.com to register their interest with no obligation.
