A gritter driver was "shaken up but OK" after his lorry rolled onto its side, dumping tonnes of salt across an A-road.

Police and an ambulance crew were called to Finn Farm Roundabout in Ashford following the crash on the A2070.

The incident, which happened at about 2.30pm on Friday, sparked lengthy delays as officers blocked part of the road around the junction.

They stayed at the scene for a number of hours but the driver was not taken to hospital.

In a tweet, Kent County Council's gritting team confirmed the driver was "shaken up but OK".

The authority treated the county's primary routes again last night due to "low road surface temperatures across the network".

Throughout the week, the cold weather has caught out a number of motorists in Kent.

Earlier on Friday, a driver had a lucky escape when their car overturned in icy conditions in Maidstone.

And on Wednesday, a country road in Selling, near Faversham, was shut after a vehicle overturned.
