A251 closed as 100 hay bales catch fire

A section of road is closed after a stack of hay bales caught fire in an adjacent field.

About 100 bales are currently ablaze in a field near Challock, next to the junction of the A251 and Shottenden Road.

Two fire engines and a bulk water carrier are in attendance and crews are using hose reel jets and foam to tackle the blaze.

The nearby road has been closed as fire crews use hose reel jets to quell the flames, with foam being used to prevent further spread.

No casualties have been reported and the cause is not yet known.

The closure is expected to remain in place until about 6pm.

Bus journeys are delayed, with some facing diversions.
