Villagers in Wye have been without internet today after workers cut through a broadband cable.

Around 750 customers in the village and the surrounding area have been unable to get online since 5am this morning.

It is believed to be related to maintenance works being carried out by Network Rail at the Wye level crossing, which was closed from midnight until 4am.

Network Rail spokesman Chris Denham said: "We know that a cable was cut while there was work going on at the Wye level crossing.

"We're investigating it at the moment but there were other works going on so we don't know which contractor did it.

"It's not affecting the running of the railway."

BT Openreach engineers have been working to restore internet to the village since this morning.
