Ashford couple claim Just Desserts delivery driver ate their food in his car

A couple who claimed that a takeaway delivery driver was eating their food in the car were shocked to receive a response calling them “rude and disgusting liars”.
Leah Knight, 26, of South Ashford, says her and her partner Reece Tyler, 23, ordered two waffles on Monday night from Just Desserts in Ashford, via the national delivery website Just Eat.
The pair claim they spotted the driver tucking into the sweet treats outside their house.
But the owner of dessert parlour in Bank Street has rejected the claims, calling them 'impossible'. He apologised for the comment but accused the couple of "messing about".
Ms Knight said: “We ordered and paid for a Kinder Bueno waffle and a fudge brownie.
“We heard a car pull up outside but it was just a man in his car eating and drinking.”
But the mum-of-three, who has another baby on the way, said: “I saw him take a box from the the passenger side, open the box, eat the food and and lick his fingers.
“It was three or four times.”
Ms Knight says that when the driver eventually came to the door, he claimed he had been waiting there for 10 minutes: “No one got out. He was sat in the car. It took about 10 minutes to bring it to the door.”
The couple questioned the driver about the food he had been eating.
Ms Knight said: “My partner went to his window. There was no box or bag there.
“Parts of our waffles were missing.”
The couple then contacted the store, where they claimed staff were unhelpful and refused to give them a refund.
Ms Knight later posted a review on the Just Desserts Facebook page but was shocked when one of the company’s Facebook page admins replied calling her a “rude and disgusting person” and a “big liar” in pursuit of free food. The reply also contained a swearword.
She said: “It was a bad review and they didn’t like it. We just wanted our money back, not another order.”
Just Eat has refunded the couple the full £15.50, including the £3 delivery charge. The online service acts as an intermediary between independent take-out food outlets and customers.
The independent dessert parlour opened in July last year, on the site of the former Bombay Street restaurant.
It was so popular during its opening that it had to close the queue two hours early.
Ismail Yalcin, owner of Just Desserts, said: “We always give food to our drivers so it’s impossible that they could eat customers’ food.
“We are sorry we put that comment because these people are messing around.
“It’s not fair to our business and our customers.”
Mr Yalcin also confirmed that the Facebook page has been restored today, after removing it briefly earlier this week.
A Just Eat spokesman said: “Just Eat’s mission is to connect millions of people to the food they love so we are always disappointed when customers have an unsatisfactory experience.
“We will be investigating this incident carefully and will take appropriate action if required.”
