Illegal rave closed down in Chilham

Police closed down an illegal rave after complaints of noise from neighbours.
Several hundred people had turned up at the gathering on land near The Beeches, Ashford Road, Chilham, and residents rang police because of loud music.
Large amounts of alcohol had also been drunk during that Saturday night and Sunday morning , police said.
Officers went onto the site at 5am on Sunday to make the revellers leave.
They were still in the wooded area as late as 10am as the last partygoers moved on. Nobody was arrested.
A Kent Police spokesman said: “We made a decision to close down the party due to the effects on the local community and when we felt that the large number of people could leave safely.
“Large amounts of alcohol had been consumed and we had to ensure that these people did not further disrupt the local community when they left.”
Chilham parish councillor Margaret Barbrook said: “It is a real nuisance, but I guess with villages like Chilham being surrounded by woodland it seems to go hand in hand.”
