An Asda trolley was precariously placed over an exposed manhole as the cover was nowhere to be seen.

Cyclist Jacky Dodson noticed the upside-down trolley on her journey to work in Ashford, and only later realised it was covering a manhole.

She said had the trolley not been there, she could have gone down the hole on her bike as the path was pitch black.

"It was so dangerous," she said.

"All I saw on my way to work at 3.30am was an overturned trolley not realising it was covering a big hole.

"It was a good job it was there as I would have cycled into it.

"It was on my way home that I noticed it was covering a hole."

Mrs Dodson said had the trolley not been there, she would have cycled over it and subsequently fallen down the hole

The exposed manhole was in an alleyway at the bottom of Osborne Road in Willesborough, near the railway bridge.

Mrs Dodson took a picture and video of the trolley on her way back from work.

"I'm not sure who put the trolley over the hole, I'm assuming a resident," she said.

"I'm sure the water board would have not used a trolley.

"I reckon someone took the cover off to let the water drain down because of the rain as the alleyway floods there."

Mrs Dodson says the cover was nowhere to be seen but, two days later, the manhole has now been replaced.
