Kent's Mark Rylance has added a TV Bafta to the Oscar he won earlier this year.

He has been named best actor for his role in Wolf Hall, which also won best drama series.

The Ashford-born star played Thomas Cromwell and said he was very aware they could only portray a tiny slice of the book, and didn't want to let fans down.

He said: "What we did film didn't seem to disappoint people too much.

"I might not have had six pages of thought between being asked a question as Thomas Cromwell and answering, but I had a page and a half at times."

In February he was also named best supporting actor at the film Bafta awards.

He picked up the honour for his latest film role as a Soviet agent in Steven Spielberg's Cold War thriller Bridge of Spies.

He starred alongside Tom Hanks in the movie, in which he played officer Rudolf Abel, who is arrested in 1950s New York and prosecuted as a spy.

Later that month he clinched the ultimate award - the Oscar, for his part in the same movie.

Kent can also claim another honour in last night's Baftas - the series Wolf Hall was partly filmed in Penshurst Place in the county.
