A learner driver is facing a ban from the roads before taking his test.

The unqualified driver was stopped by officers in Ashford after pulling out of a petrol station with no lights on and an uninsured car.

The man had been travelling with friends in his modified Honda Civic, and had pulled into a petrol station to refuel.

Unfortunately for the group, eagle-eyed officers spotted the car pulling out of the station without any lights on and pulled them over.

Upon speaking to the driver, it was revealed that he only had a provisional licence, and was not being supervised by a suitable licence holder – another legal requirement.

Investigations also revealed that the young driver also had no insurance for the vehicle, which was duly confiscated.

Learner drivers can face a fine, points on their (provisional) licence, or even a driving ban if they are caught driving without proper supervision.

A Kent Police Ashford spokesman commented on twitter that the group were "sent off walking" following the stop.
