Leon Camier narrowly missed out on a podium finish during a hit and miss weekend in Assen during round three of the World Superbike Championship.

Camier failed to finish and opening race that was littered with technical problems to his Aprilia machine but he bounced back in race two.

Starting from ninth on the grid the Ashford rider dropped down to 12th from the start but over the next 22 laps forced his way up to fourth.

It was a testing weekend for the former British Superbike champion.

He said: "We’ve had problems with tyres over the weekend, I made mistakes in Qualifying, and then (on Sunday) we had two breakdowns and the bike was switching itself off. Anything that could have gone wrong did, so I’m happy to come away with a place finish and to improve on my Championship position.

"I’m leaving Assen convinced that I can do well if I keep improving and luck stays on my side."

Camier has a break for three weeks now before the championship heads to Monza for round four.
