A lorry driver found himself in a bit of a pickle after getting stuck overnight in a cul-de-sac, and had to be freed by a recovery tow truck.

The lorry is believed to have turned into Mill Court near the Stour Centre in Ashford after 9pm yesterday.

Despite signs warning that the road was unsuitable for lorries, the driver proceeded into the housing estate and appears to have got stuck in a grass verge at the end of the road.

Residents said the warning sign was put in place after a similar incident happened in the past with a lorry getting stuck.

A resident said that the Bulgarian driver didn't speak much English, and was left stranded in the cab overnight.

This morning passers by noticed it was still stuck in the mud, and tow cables were left connected on the front from an unsuccessful effort to move it.

But then, at 10am this morning a tow truck from Ashford Recovery was called in by a resident to pull out the lorry.

The workman attached three tow cables and and used a remote control to heave the lorry up from the mud.

The driver was then able to drive out of the tight spot at around 11am.
