The M20 has reopened nine hours early as work on the latest stage of a multi-million pound motorway junction has been completed.
Construction of a bridge across the motorway meant Highways England shut the coastbound stretch of the M20 between Junction 9 towards Ashford and 11 for Hythe amd the London-bound carriageway between Junctions 11 and 10 this weekend.
Officials said the motorway the London-bound section reopened 8.40pm and the coastbound side shortly afterwards.
Thomas Selby, Highways England's project manager, said: “We and our contractors have worked hard to successfully complete the installation.
“It represents a big milestone for the project, we’re pleased to be able to reopen the road ahead of schedule, and we thank people for their patience during this essential work."
Due to the successful completion of the bridge that forms the east side of the new roundabout the motorway no more closure will be required.
However, the west interchange bridge will be installed on 25-28 January during a weekend closure.
The work caused gridlock on the A20 yesterday as drivers sought alternative routes.
