A suspected drink driver has been arrested following a crash.

The accident happened in Bethersden, near Ashford at about 5.50pm yesterday and resulted in a 28-year-old woman being taken to a London hospital with serious injuries.

The arrested driver, a 66-year-old man from Ashford, also suffered serious injuries and is in hospital.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision, which happened on the A28 Ashford Road, near the junction with Standard Lane.

Kent Fire and Rescue also attended the scene and helped free the two casualties before handing them over to ambulance crews.

The woman was driving a blue Fiat Punto, which left the road and came to a stop in a field.

The man was driving a white Mercedes CLS 250 convertible and was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury through dangerous driving and being over the prescribed alcohol limit.

Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or saw either vehicle beforehand.
