Ashford house blaze sees man arrested on suspicion of arson

A 37-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of arson after a house fire last night.

Emergency crews were called to the home in Flaxpond Road, South Ashford around 6.30pm after reports of a fire.

Fire crews tackled the blaze and were at the scene until around midnight.

A spokesman for the fire service said: "The fire is believed to have started on the ground floor resulting in 20% severe fire, heat and smoke damage.

"Crews used positive pressure ventilation fans, breathing apparatus and a hosereel jet to tackle the fire."

No one was hurt in incident but the man remains in police custody.
