An image of a man wanted in connection with a series of distraction burglaries has been released by detectives.

An investigation was launched by Kent Police after an elderly victim had cash stolen following a bogus call in Wye.

The incident, which took place in Little Chequers, saw a man knock on the door of a pensioner's home and claim he was there to check the water supply.

The home owner was asked to step outside to discuss where pipes would be fitted in the garden, and ended up speaking to the man for around 30 minutes before he left.

But when she went back inside she noticed money had been taken and believes a second person could have entered the house whilst she was outside.

The incident happened between 2.30pm and 4.20pm on Friday, June 28.

A man, aged 34 and from Folkestone, was arrested yesterday (Wednesday) in connection with this incident, and released on bail pending further enquiries.

But officers have also received similar reports of burglaries in Deal.

On Thursday, June 27 a man visited a house in Dola Avenue, during the day claiming to be checking the water supply.

But after his call, a quantity of cash was reported stolen.

Then, at 4pm on Thursday, July 4 a man called at a property in Pilots Avenue, also asking to check the water supply.

It was only when the victim asked for proof of identification that the man left.

Nothing was stolen in this incident.

Detectives are now asking witnesses or anyone who noticed anything suspicious in these areas to get in touch.

People who recognise the man pictured are also asked to call.

Police are also warning residents to be vigilant, look out for neighbours and be aware of thieves who use distraction techniques to carry out crime.

They advise you keep doors and windows locked, and do not let strangers into your home unless you can confirm their identity.
