A man suffered burns to his arms and face after a garden shed caught fire.

A discarded cigarette is thought to have caused the blaze, which broke out in Yew Close in Ashford.

Crews arrived to find a shed and several fences well alight.

Fire crews sprayed water into the man's face for 20 minutes

They ran cool water over the man's face for at least 20 minutes in an attempt to prevent him from suffering serious injuries.

Firefighters also managed to put out the fire, although windows were damaged along with the guttering of a house and fences belonging to neighbouring properties in the process.

It happened at just after 4pm and two fire engines were at the scene for 40 minutes.

A fire service spokesman said: “The cause is believed to have been accidental and thought to have started by a discarded cigarette that was still alight.”
