The scene of the robbery

by Sarah Marshall

A man was threatened with a knife and robbed in broad daylight in New Romney on Friday.

It is believed the three robbers were all teenagers.

Just after 4pm, a 26-year-old man was stopped by a trio of masked robbers and threatened with a knife. The man was knocked to the ground and had his £1,700 cash pay packet stolen.

Police cordoned off three areas of New Romney: Lions Road, where the attack happened; the Nationwide Building Society and the church yard, which is where the robbers are thought to have fled after the attack.

The victim suffered cuts and grazes but did not require hospital treatment.

The three robbers are described as white and were wearing black clothes and black ski masks. The victim thinks the attackers were in their teens.

Police are asking for the community's help in solving the crime. Officers say some people have already been in touch and thank them for their help. They are now appealing for anyone who has overheard a suspicious conversation or has realised someone has come into a large quantity of cash to contact them.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the police on 01303 850055 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
