Police were called to Kinney's Lane at about 4.20am and say the man was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Officers taped off a footpath that runs next to the club for a number of hours.

A spokesman said the death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be prepared for the coroner.

In a statement, John Norman, chairman of Ashford Rugby Club, said: "We were very sad to hear from the police about what happened and would like to send our sincere condolences to all family and friends of the deceased."
