Former I'm a Celebrity... winner and McFly star Dougie Poynter is scheduled to perform a DJ set at a nightclub in the county.

The bass guitarist will appear at the weekly SOAP event in Cameo on Station Road in Ashford on Friday.

The multi-talented musician was a founding member of the popular band who, in 2004, found fame with their debut single 5 Colours in her Hair which entered the UK singles chart in the top spot.

Dougie Poynter, 31, has modelled, played bass guitar in front of 60,000 people and even wrote a children's book with bandmate Tom Fletcher

The band's first album - Room on the 3rd Floor - also premiered at No.1 on the album chart, earning McFly a Guinness World Record as the youngest band to achieve the feat.

At 16, Poynter and his pals took the record from previous holders The Beatles.

Following a number of successful releases, Poynter was drafted for the 2011 series of I'm a Celebrity, beating The Only Way is Essex star Mark Wright to be crowned King of the Jungle.

After this triumph, McFly announced the formation of a supergroup with pop peers Busted in 2013.

The band, McBusted, played a 34-date tour called The McBusted Tour - the largest UK tour of 2014.

The popstar has also found acclaim as an author, after he and fellow bandmate Tom Fletcher penned a children's book called 'The Dinosaur that Pooped Christmas'. It proved to be the most popular debut children's novel of 2012, selling 72,000 copies.

He'll be playing a selection of pop-rock anthems, alongside noughties classics and his personal favourite tracks at Friday's event.

A spokesman for SOAP said: "We really thought it was something that it was something different, I don't know many clubs that he's appeared at. So when I found out he was interested in doing something, I knew I had to try to get him down."
