A parachute jump has been planned by a young woman to mark what would have been her mother’s birthday.

Lauren Rose, 25, lost her mum Julie, who sadly died from bowel cancer on November 18, 2012, aged 51.

But the web manager for Homeplus Furniture in Ashford is using what would have been her mum’s 53rd birthday to raise money for a charity which is fighting the disease.

Miss Rose, from Smeeth, said: “I lost my beautiful mother at a young age.

“For many years she fought the battle against her cancer and was defiant. She never gave up hope of finding a way to overcome it and that strength she had has passed on to her three children.

“I have decided to do the skydive on my mum’s birthday to not only raise money for this good cause, but to celebrate her birthday how she would have wanted it done, in style.

“I am absolutely terrified at the thought of jumping out of the plane, but I wanted to make a difference and help raise awareness and hopefully one day a cure will be found.”

Miss Rose, who also works behind the bar at the Five Bells in Brabourne, is hoping to raise £2,000 for Beating Bowel Cancer.

Bowel cancer is the second biggest cause of cancer deaths in the UK. Around 1 in 18 people will get bowel cancer and of the 100 people diagnosed every day, almost half will die of the disease.

But in more than 90% of cases, the cancer could be treated successfully if diagnosed early.

Beating Bowel Cancer is a charity for those affected by bowel cancer and is dedicated to raising awareness of the symptoms and to saving more lives.

Miss Rose will undertake her jump from Headcorn Aerodrome on Monday, May 12.
