Grieving mum Angela Crittal's shock as roadside memorial to her son in Tenterden is removed

Wayne Crittal was killed in a crash in Reading Street

A grieving mother has pleaded with people not to remove pictures and flowers from a memorial to her dead son.

Every year, Angela Crittall puts items round a tree in Reading Street, Tenterden, on the anniversary of her son Wayne's death.

But this year, she said the pictures, flowers and messages had been removed.

"I have been back to replace them twice and they have disappeared," said 53-year-old Mrs Crittall.

"I have the permission of the landowner to do this each year, so I have no idea who is taking them.

"I am a grieving mother and this is very upsetting. I just want them to stop."

Mrs Crittall replaced the pictures at the tree near Tenterden Garden Centre.

Mr Crittall, 25, died on July 7, 2007, when he came off his 600cc Kawasaki motorcycle and was hit by a car head-on.

He ended up under the VW Polo and rescuers had to put the car on its roof to get to him.

He lived in Bowdell Lane, Brenzett, and worked for the family double glazing firm Crittall Installation Services, run by his parents, Peter and Angela, and brother, Kevin.

Mrs Crittall said she had put pictures, flowers and banners on a tree near the site every year, but this was the first year they had been removed.

"I do not know who is doing this," she said. "It is in the middle of nowhere. Whoever it is is stopping deliberately to remove the pieces.

"Every time I put the pictures back, they are ripped off again. I am not going to be defeated and will keep replacing them."

Mrs Crittall, of Rye Road, Sandhurst, has reported the matter to the police.
