Developers have finally revealed the name for a 16-storey development, two years after the plan was revealed.
The scheme, which will be built on the corner of Beaver Road and Avenue Jacques Faucheux in Ashford, was approved on Wednesday.
Until now, the 207-apartment project has been referred to as the 'Ashford Shard' following a comment by On Architecture director David Weir in 2019.
However it was announced today that its name will be Infinity Ashford to highlight the town's link with John Wallis - the Ashford-born and raised mathematician who created the infinity symbol.
Infinity Ashford, like the real London Shard, is set to dominate the town's skyline and will feature a top-floor restaurant with panoramic views.
Being developed by A Better Choice for Property Ltd, the property investment arm of Ashford Borough Council, it has now been revealed that the apartments and nine townhouses could take only two years to build.
Also noted today by a council spokesman was the possible creation of "a large wetland area" which could be created "away from town" to mitigate for the scheme's impact on Stodmarsh Lakes' nutrient levels.
The Infinity Ashford site is situated alongside a number of new developments, including the Hampton by Hilton Hotel - set to open this summer - and the Curious Brewery which opened in 2019.
Keith Hollidge, Commercial Development Manager at ABC for Property, said: “We are delighted that the Committee endorsed our exciting vision for this development, which is destined to set a new quality benchmark for the residential market in Ashford.
“We will be able to offer an unrivalled location opposite the railway station, with its 38 minute connection to central London via high speed services, and local facilities including the newly-expanded Ashford Designer Outlet.
"We will now waste no time in turning our vision for this fantastic development into a reality.”
A new website is expected to be created soon.
