A dog found injured and abandoned has now settled into her new home ready for Christmas.

Millie was spotted by Marc Buss while he was walking his own dog by the Royal Military Canal near Hamstreet at the beginning of September.

He said the cocker spaniel had wounds on her body and injuries around her eyes which had left her partially blinded.

He said: “I saw her on the side of the canal with no owner in sight, so I grabbed her and could see she was in an absolute state.

“I don’t think she had been there very long and had probably been dumped within minutes because another dog was walking back and said she hadn’t been there earlier.

“She had no microchip and hadn’t been neutered. She was in a very poor condition, she looked skinny and as though she might be blind.

“She looked really old, but apparently she is only about three. She had really bad wounds.

“I think it is disgusting that she could be left like that. I was horrified by it; it was awful.”

Millie was taken to the Barrow Hill vets in Ashford that night where she was looked after by the veterinary team who treated her for a skin condition.

They said she had been in a very poor state and had obviously been bred from on several occasions before she was eventually dumped.

The vets were inundated with calls of concern for Millie, who was originally named Poppet, but they looked after her and were able to bring her back up to her full vibrant and healthy self.

Now head veterinary nurse Katie Mackintosh said the story has ended happily for Millie. She said: “We have rehomed Millie to one of our clients.

“She has settled in brilliantly and is in really good health. She has such a great temperament.

“She still comes in to see us regularly and gets spoilt with treats and cuddles. She is unrecognisable as the dog that was brought into us in such a state.”
