Sportswear giants Nike and Adidas are both set to get bigger stores at the Ashford Designer Outlet – with the latter moving to a different part of the centre.

McArthurGlen bosses have submitted plans to Ashford Borough Council which could see a number of units reworked in the original part of the site.

Lyle & Scott and Caffe Nero will both move to allow Nike to expand

If approved, Nike would extend into the neighbouring Lyle & Scott and Caffe Nero units, while Adidas would take up the spot previously filled by Polo Ralph Lauren.

Both Lyle & Scott – a Scottish knitwear brand – and Caffe Nero would move to another part of the centre, potentially in the site's yet-to-be-filled £90m extension.

The larger Nike shop would go across 1,018 sq m, while Adidas would be slightly smaller at 900 sq m.

The former Polo Ralph Lauren unit, which is next to the main entrance to the shopping centre, has sat empty since the fashion company moved to a new spot in the centre's extension in late 2019.

McArthurGlen says its plans "would not breach any of the retail restrictions" approved by the council in 2016.

Earlier this month, the Outlet launched a Christmas gift-wrapping service where bosses are donating 70% of the total money raised to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, which is the centre's charity partner this year.
