The number 666 bus was forced out of service yesterday after a beastly accident.

There will be hell to pay after the service, known as the Devil Bus, had its window and door smashed by a branch in Faversham Road, Kennington at 3.40pm on Thursday.

The accident, which happened by the Co-op, left the 666 unable to continue on its school run between Faversham and Ashford.

Nigel Andrews, the transport manager from operator Regent Coaches, said: "There was a fire engine coming up the Faversham Road and the traffic pulled out of the way.

"A lorry in front of the bus went into a hedge and as it moved off the tree rebounded and the branch took out the side windows and hit the door, which wouldn't open.

"Unfortunately it caused problems because we had to take the bus out of service."

There were passengers on board but no-one was injured.

A replacement bus, driven by Mr Andrews, came from Whitstable to continue the service and collect school pupils later that afternoon.

It is understood a number of pupils were left waiting for the bus outside Norton Knatchbull School in Hythe Road.

"We got a replacement bus there eventually," said Mr Andrews.

Operators of the 666 bus service were forced to remove the devil logo from the sign after complaints to Kent County Council in 2007.
