Work to demolish a bridge will see the M20 closed throughout the whole of this weekend.
The major route will be closed between junctions 9 for Ashford and 11 for Stanford coastbound and junctions 11 and 10 for Willesborough Londonbound, starting at 10pm on Friday.
Highways England hopes to have completely removed the soon-to-be-obselete bridge on the outskirts of Ashford by the time the M20 reopens at 6am on Monday.
The Highfield Lane bridge is being dismantled as part of Junction 10A works, which are expected to be completed this autumn.
Drivers will be diverted towards the M2 and A2 to avoid the closed sections.
If the work is not completed in time, Highways England have earmarked next weekend as a contingency plan.
Highfield Lane bridge will be replaced by the new Kingsford Street bridge, the installation of which saw a similar motorway closure in November.
Work to upgrade the M20 to a smart motorway prompted the removal of the Teapot Lane Bridge near Aylesford last September, with the required weekend closure causing traffic chaos.
