Kent-based entertainer Paul O'Grady has spoken of his devastation after his dog Olga had to be put to sleep.

The host of ITV's for the Love of Dogs talked to the Daily Mirror to speak about carrying the 14-year-old Cairn terrier cross into his garden with the vet and friends to say goodbye.

He buried his beloved pet in the orchard and told the newspaper: “I held her and off she went."

The star, who lives in Aldington, said there was no alternative as the dog had severe kidney failure.

Olga has starred in Mr O'Grady's TV and radio shows and amassed an incredible 34,000 Instagram followers and had her own fan club. He'd even named his production company after her.

It was revealed earlier today Mr O'Grady has backed a campaign group, Rural Means Rural (RMR), with a significant donation.

The group aims to challenge elements of Ashford's housing policy and encourage sensible, measured development.
