The attack was on an 18-year-old girl. It happened either late last Thursday evening, December 9, or during the early hours of Friday, December 10, in the park between the Liquid and Life night club in East Hill and the Civic Centre in Tannery Lane.

The area was closed to the public while police combed the area for evidence.

Police want to trace a second man who is believed to have spoken to the girl earlier in the evening at the club and at a nearby pub.

He is white, 5ft 9in tall, of medium or slim build, with short, dark hair.

He wore a distinctive long sleeved sweater which had light and dark stripes around the body. There was a cream or light stripe around the chest.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Kent Police incident room on 01233 619164.
