A popular former diner is on its way to Wiltshire under a partial police escort after 20 years on the same site.

The authentic 1940s American Diner in Kennington, Ashford, was run until October by MDM "Royal" Karim, when he was evicted by the Longacres Bybrook Barn garden centre.

The mobile restaurant - which was originally shipped from New Jersey to Covent Garden before arriving in Kennington in the 1990s - was removed this morning.

Part of the relocation is requiring a police escort due to the diner's size, and a large crane was hired in to lift it onto a removal truck.

Yet restaurant goers need not mourn the loss of the popular mobile cafe.

Many of the former eatery's bestsellers, including its monstrous eating challenges, are now available at Mr Karim's new establishment RJ's Diner - which opened in Bank Street last week.
