Railway services along a major route have ground to a halt following reports of a trespasser.

Southeastern bosses posted on X earlier this afternoon saying services between Ashford and Headcorn could not run.

Carriages on the line were being held following reports of a trespasser who was believed to have gained access in the village of Pluckly.

Railway service providers say the power to the track was switched off for safety reasons and response staff on site were attempting to “apprehend the trespasser”.

Just after 3.30pm the power was switched back on as the trespasser had been found and removed from the line.

As of 3.36pm trains resumed through the area now able to run through the area, but railway bosses are warning commuters could see delays until services return to normal.

A British Transport Police spokesperson said officers were called to the line near Pluckley at around 2.49pm today.

It followed reports of concern for the welfare of a trespasser on the tracks.

Officers attended and they were taken to a place of safety.
