Police have closed a road after a lorry hit a railway bridge.

The HGV struck the Newtown Road bridge in Ashford and police have blocked both lanes while recovery takes place.

The top of the lorry has collapsed after it hit Newtown Road bridge (18826504)

Network Rail, which owns the bridge and has a maintenance depot next to the scene, is helping to restrict traffic.

Motorists should avoid the area, where traffic is reportedly building.

If entering Ashford town centre from the M20 J10, remain on the A2070 Bad Munstereifel Road before taking the A2042.
